Sonal Mansingh

Sonal Mansingh is the founder of the Centre for Indian Classical Dances (CICD), New Delhi. A proud nominee of Padma Bhushan (1992), Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (1987), she received the Padma Vibhushan Award in 2003, India's the second highest civilian award, making her the second woman dancer in India to receive this honour after Balasaraswati. The documentary based on her life- Sonal, directed by Prakash Jha, to mark the completion of her 40 years in dancing in 2002, won the National Film Award for Best Non-Feature Film. She was conferred with Doctor of Science by G.B Pant University and Doctor of Literature by Sambalpur University in 2007.
