Ruma Roka is the founder of Noida Deaf Society (NDS): A not-for-profit society working for the upliftment and empowerment of deaf children and youth. Ruma embarked upon this journey in 2004 by learning Indian Sign Language. NDS has impacted over 8000 Deaf children and youth and is successfully training over 1200 students per year. Ruma has tirelessly propagated the cause of the deaf community and the need for using the Indian Sign Language to make education, knowledge and all trainings accessible through it. She has received various awards and her work has been widely recognized. She was nominated for the 100 Women Achievers Award from the Honorable Former President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee and The Amazing Indian Award under the Best Educators category from The Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi.
