Teacher Training

Katha’s teacher training initiative, started in 1990, with the objective of enabling the Teacher to be at the Centre of Community Action and educate the community on the sensitive and much neglected issues like water and sanitation which could revitalize society. In 1993, under Kalpana Vilasam, the Centre of Creativity in Education, regular in-service training was started, with three trainings each year. In 2001, this was transformed into a 160-hour annual training. Katha also works with all school teachers and principals, for Creative Teaching and work on solutions collectively to overcome the challenges faced within the institution of education. Teachers of the government schools are trained in StoryPedagogy to enhance the classroom teaching.

Katha is implementing teacher training program for low cost schools across the States on the methodology and framework of Katha’s StoryPedagogy. Teachers are equipped to teach the NCERT/State syllabus while following and applying the Katha framework to transform reading into an enjoyable and enriching experience for the students and the teachers.
