On my tenth birthday I was gifted with a small puppy. It was a small, white, fluffy dog and very cute to look at. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. I named it ‘Jolly’ as it brought joy to my life. It was really a very lively puppy and soon it became very attached to me. I used to look after it from morning to night and we were like two friends. I played with him, talked to him and walked with him in our neighbourhood. Jolly was with me for five years.
When I was fifteen years old I went to Europe for a holiday with my family, for a month. We could not take Jolly with us so we kept him with our neighbor. I was sad to leave him behind, but forgot all about him during my vacation. When I returned after a month I immediately went to my neighbor’s house to get Jolly. What I saw brought tears to my eyes. Jolly was lying still in his basket, his eyes closed .Gone was the lovely fluffy dog. In its place was lying a skeleton of a dog.
My neighbor told me that Jolly had stopped eating from the day I had left. The vet had tried all possible ways to save Jolly. But after fifteen days the vet had said that nothing could be done and that Jolly would die any day soon.
That Jolly was still alive without food for so long was a miracle in itself. But as soon as I patted him and called his name he tried to sit up and wag his tail. I took him home and fed him. Fortunately or rather miraculously Jolly soon started recovering. Even the vet could not understand how he was alive without eating anything for a month. Many things in this world are inexplicable and this incident is one of them.
