Katha’s education model rests on the belief that every child can bring to themselves a sustainable world with the help of enabling adults- families, teachers, communities – and a compassionate curriculum for life.
In this holistic approach to education, we involve all our stakeholders- children, teachers, principals, and families of our children.
Katha’s I Love Reading (ILR) Program 2016-17’s first Principals Alliance for Creative Teaching (PACT) Meeting of the SDMC (South Delhi Municipal Corporation), Najafgarh Corporation was held on Thursday, 1st December 2016. PACT is an endeavor that welcomes principals of the MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) schools (in which Katha works) to share their views and ideas of stakeholders towards enhancing the Joy of Reading and Strengthening ILR Program. The meeting was held at one of the schools of the zone, SDMC Dabri Village School. It was attended by 9 principals from 9 different MCD schools.
We shared with them I Love Reading Project’s vision and the stories of lives we’ve touched so far.
In this interaction, principals shared their views and ideas about the project and the various elements of Katha’s story pedagogy© that has helped them improve massively the performances of students and their assessment.
Ms. Prem Meena Singh, the Principal of SDMC, Palam Village said, “The education model has helped our students open up and has improved their classroom participation. Even the weakest students make an effort to come forward and participate in the classroom activities and discussions.”
To improve the effectiveness of usual classroom practices the principals were also oriented and briefed about Katha’s digital open-source teaching learning material website- http://www.padhopyarse.net/.
Padhopyarse is the only Hindi teaching learning material website in India. It aims tp bridge all socio-economic gaps by providing equal access to education to everyone in the country. The website has many of Katha’s tested and proved techniques of teaching available for free.
Katha’s I Love Reading Programme aims to not only improve the reading skills of children in MCD schools but also enhance their learning experience.
This initiative- Principals Alliance for Creative Teaching (PACT) meeting, ensures that all stakeholders are an equal part of the process of change and is supported by Oracle. Oracle currently also supports Katha’s I Love Reading program in 30 MCD schools.
It is such initiatives that go a long way in ensuring that all the 150 million children* in India, who cannot read at grade level, have access to quality education.
Each step and support helps us come closer to our dream of creating an India where each child has access to an education they deserve, not just what they can afford!
