Community Matters

SHAKTI KHAZANA . The women's initiative
to help economic resurgence for the families of our
children includes activities such as skills upgradation,
reskilling and generating income through the women's
cooperative. Started in 1990. The average family income
in the 10,000 - 12,000 families in our community was
Rs 600- Rs 800/month/family, according to a government
survey. Today, our women earn up to Rs 6,000 a month
- as teachers, bakers and professional cooks and tailors,
thanks to Katha's training.

The on-the ground community empowering activist spaces.
Finding potential in each member of the community, fostering,
honing, celebrating, applauding. Through the various
Mandals/associations for Mothers, Fathers, Adolescent
Girls, Boys, Senior Citizens. Started in 1993 with the
Ma Mandal, this programme has grown in keeping with
the demands both expressed and perceived. Today this
includes the Shopkeepers guild initiative, that addresses
the issue of better shops, and a Navabhuja Mall. Through
active self-help groups in -
- Safe water and Sanitation;
- Health and Housing;
- Education and Economic
resurgence.
