We take great pleasure in announcing the Katha-EU Community Activism Award, an India country-level Search for Best Practices from amongst voluntary nonprofit organisations working with urban poor communities. This search is limited to seven cities: Ahmedabad . Bangalore . Chennai . Delhi . Hyderabad . Mumbai . Kolkata .

The submission form and guidelines are enclosed. The last date for submission of forms along with other required documents is  15 November 2005.

This C ommunity Activism Award is organised by Katha, one of India's leading edge nonprofit organisations working in the literacy to literature continuum, in association with the European Union and the India Habitat Centre.  

Seven selected organizations will be invited to participate in the Katha Asia International Festival , to be held at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi l 6-11 January 2006. We expect about 100 community and literary activists, academics and scholars from 16 Asian countries including India, as also from UK and USA. Five full days of intense dialogues and discussions as well as master classes and workshops are on the cards. The KathaAsia theme is: CITY STORIES l Writing the City . Transforming the City. The gala Awards Ceremony is scheduled at the Utsav. Each participating NPO will be given generous space to showcase their innovative community work. Intensive hands-on workshops are also planned.
