Katha, the profit-for-all voluntary organization, is looking for PEOPLE! We have been working with children and women since 1990 and have strong links with the 54 communities we work with.

Katha also works at the leading edge in culturelinking, literary translation and publishing. We see translation as a non-divisive tool for the country as a whole. Uncommon creativities for a common good is our motto.

katha is a registered nonprofit organization.

Our mission is to spread literacy and the joy of literature among the community. We believe that stories give us access to insights and skills needed to live in a pluralistic society like India. Stories can and do help develop active tolerance skills in us, an ability that comes from a greater maturity and understanding of ground realities (as opposed to passive tolerance that many of us have today). We would need a thousand lives to learn from our own experience about India 's rich and varied cultures; stories are a vicarious way to learn more about ourselves. With this in mind, we organize a variety of events such as book launches, readings, workshops, seminars, performances, et cetera.

Katha Events are as much about celebration as they are about sharing knowledge and resources, insights and points of view. We organize events around every area of our work – translation, education and community development as well as media and communication. Here are profiles of some of our recent events.

If you wish to participate in our forthcoming events, or have ideas for events where we could collaborate with you, do write to us at katha@katha.org
